Fresh, Local & In Season!
About the Harvest Markets
The Maitland Harvest Markets provide a forum for farmers, producers and artisans to sell farm-origin, home-grown and hand-made produce and products directly to customers.
The Harvest Markets feature a colourful array of seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs, free range meat and eggs, seafood, olives and olive oils, sourdough breads, pastries and cakes, nuts, jams and chutneys, honey, fresh dairy products, handmade cheeses, wines, candles and soaps, plants and flowers.
Linger over a freshly brewed coffee or a wonderfully fragrant cup of tea. Listen to live music while the kids play, or feast from the wonderful array of food stalls offering tasty and fresh hot food. Spend the morning chatting with breeders, farmers, horticulturists, chefs, artisans and musicians. Buy some gum boots or a chook, or have your knives sharpened!
Join us every Saturday at the Maitland Showground, 8am - 11am.
Please note there will be no Harvest Markets operating on Saturday, 30 May 2015 due to another event being held at the Maitland Showground.
The Harvest Markets celebrates the Hunter Valley’s rich cultural and agricultural diversity and provides the Maitland community and surrounding districts with an opportunity to directly meet and support regional producers. By establishing the Harvest Markets, we aim to provide various economic, social and health benefits including promoting local producers; assisting consumers to buy fresh, organic or home-made produce; revitalising historic and culturally sensitive buildings; and regenerating community spirit through our shared cultural and agricultural heritage.
Our hope is that the Harvest Markets will add to the cultural development of the city by complimenting the exciting mix of existing markets and festivals including the Maitland Markets selling general goods; the Linuwel markets promoting home baked, handmade and fair trade; the Maitland Mall Diners Market; and the annual Aroma, Taste & Riverlights Festivals.
The Hunter River Agricultural and Horticultural Association, owners of the Maitland Showground, was purposely formed over 150 years ago to serve and support the local farmers and producers of Maitland and surrounding districts. Fittingly, the Harvest Markets are held at the Maitland Showground adjacent to the magnificent Grandstand and Willard pavilions.
